Lab West MHA Frustrated it Takes a Radio Call in to get Answers from Minister This morning MHA Jordan Brown of Labrador West spent the morning echoing his call for government to recognize that the Liberal Government’s blanket approach to childcare in the province is flawed and ignores the unique realities of people across the province. After repeatedly asking the Premier and the Minister of Education for answers in the House of Assembly, it took a radio call in on the island with an election looming to get any action.

“Need something done in Labrador? Radio call in shows seem to be the place to get Ministerial responses - just make sure there’s an election looming,” said Brown. “We brought this issue forward in the House of Assembly and were given no answers. Parents in my district have been bringing this forward to government long before the pandemic and were stonewalled.”

Brown expressed cautious optimism that the announced increase in the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) wage subsidy program will address the issues being faced in the industry.

“I’m looking forward to working with the childcare providers in my district to ensure that this snap announcement supports the industry,” Brown said today. “Like all announcements we have seen come out of the Furey Government, we will be holding them to account to ensure their decisions produce tangible outcomes”
