NDP Caucus calls on Government to reinstate regular meetings of the Joint Covid Task force

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 19, 2020

With announcements this week from the Chief Medical Officer of Health that there are positive cases within at least one senior’s complex on the island, and the warning that a “red tsunami” of Covid is coming from the mainland, the NL NDP Caucus is calling on Government to bring back regular meetings of the Joint Covid Task force. The task force was struck at the beginning of the pandemic to allow all political parties to meet regularly to work together on how to address the pandemic in communities, have concerns addressed, and to plan for a joint approach. The NL NDP Caucus has sent a letter to the Premier’s Office, and Minister Haggie with this request.

“If we are to address this effectively as we had in the past, this task force is one of the tools that ensured that information could be brought to the Minister of Health directly, regularly, from across all districts”, NDP Leader Alison Coffin said today. “It’s time for us all to bunker down and prepare for what we are seeing happening on the mainland, and across the globe.”
