Noel Joe

Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune

Noel is a member of Miawpukek First Nations (Conne River) Reserve in Bay d’Espoir, NL, and has been a strong advocate on behalf of Indigenous youth through his affiliation with the Atlantic Policy Congress and Assembly of First Nations where he served as a youth representative for several years.

He has held various committee positions, both provincially and nationally, that have provided him opportunities to grow and develop skills that are important to any political candidate.

Noel is deeply rooted in his culture and traditions and feels strongly that we need to acknowledge who we are and where we come from before we can truly make a difference. His two consecutive terms on the Miawpukek First Nations Council provided him valuable knowledge on good governance, and it clearly demonstrated how we can learn from the past to forge a brighter future.

He has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his many years of volunteerism and community involvement. In 2010, Noel walked from Conne River to St. John's to raise awareness about youth homelessness in Newfoundland and Labrador. This 644km journey took 36 days and raised $10,000 for the cause.
