It is truly a privilege to have your confidence as Leader of our New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The highest honour to be bestowed, though, would be the opportunity to represent you in the House of Assembly.
Now we must focus on preparing for a successful 2019 Provincial Election. We know voters are disillusioned with both the Liberals and the PCs and what they have done to the people of this province.
Voters want change and I am committed to doing everything in my power to show them the NDP, our NDP, is the choice for change in the 2019 election.
I envision a Newfoundland and Labrador where people are at the very centre of every government decision. Not an afterthought. I want more New Democratic Party MHAs elected to the House of Assembly in 2019. I want to give us an even stronger voice in the fight to make everyday life more affordable, to improve health and long-term care, and to provide the reliable public services upon which we all rely.
I want to build a government that actually works for us, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
I want to build a government that contributes to a sustainable economy and a strong society. I know the very foundation of a healthy economy is one in which everyone participates, where everyone is important. An economy where no one is left behind.
I know we can be the choice for voters in this province.
The Provincial Executive opened nominations in all 40 districts on this week. We have many individuals eager to get started, so look forward to nomination announcements soon. You can review all the information at www.nl.ndp.ca/nominations.
Please call or email if you are considering running. We can talk about what's involved and how to get started. We can also connect you with our network of other current and former candidates for guidance and direction.
There are other ways to help. Our candidates will need volunteers and money to be successful. I would be delighted if you want to join our election team. Signing up to volunteer or donating to the election readiness fund is an excellent way to start. I promise to do everything I can to build a winning team.
The values of this Party are never more evident to me than when we come together at election time. I will continue to keep you informed of our election preparations. I promise to continue to uphold the values of the NDP and will work hard to make sure your voice is heard in our Legislature.
