Gerry is hitting the road!

Hi folks, I'm on the road! I'm so looking forward to getting around the province this summer and meeting with people at events, festivals, and their kitchen tables – and I hope to see you at yours! Here's where I'll be for the next couple of weeks:

Thursday, July 5

  • First stop is the Clarenville Correctional Centre for Women today. I've been working with the mothers, Natasha Martin and Lisa Piercey, who lost their daughters at this facility. These courageous moms are working for prison reform in honour of their daughters. Yesterday, I met with the Superintendent of Prisons, staff, and the Inmates' Committee at Her Majesty's Penitentiary in St. John's. There are critical issues in need of immediate attention and long-term planning. I will continue to push for the prison reform that is so desperately needed.

Friday, July 6

  • The workers at D-J Composites in Gander have been locked out for over 18 months with no resolution in sight. Company owners have been found in violation of our Labour Relations Act twice, which points to the need for reform in our labour legislation. This will be my second time visiting these workers and I will bring them your messages of support and solidarity. Then off to Conne River!

Saturday, July 7 & Sunday, July 8

  • I'm really looking forward to the annual Miawpukek Powwow and meeting again with Saqamaw Mi'sel Joe, Chief of the Miawpukek First Nation. Conne River is a model community with great childcare, education programs, and sustainable economic development. There's a lot that the province can learn from this community.

Monday, July 9 to Wednesday, July 11

  • I'll be travelling around the Connaigre Peninsula and meeting people including community leaders, families, young people, seniors, and activists. If you're in the area, contact me! Let's get a few people together and talk about what's happening in your community and how you envision the future.

Thursday, July 12

  • In Grand Falls-Windsor it's the Salmon Festival. Looking forward to the crowd and again meeting with people in Central Newfoundland. Get in touch!

Saturday I'll be heading back to St. John's for the St. John's Pride Parade on Sunday, July 15. If you're in the area, wear your orange with pride and join us to march in the parade under the NDP banner. Meet us at City Hall at 2:30 p.m. to take part.

Our road trip continues over the summer – more details to come! If you see I'm coming to your area, contact me, get a few people together around your kitchen table, as simple as that, and let's talk. Email info@nl.ndp.ca.

Looking forward to seeing you,

Gerry Rogers

Leader, NL NDP
