Kurtis Coombs is NDP candidate in Mount Pearl North

Thursday, August 11, 2011

NDP Associate President Kathleen Connors is pleased to announce the close of nominations for the party in the district of Mount Pearl North for the provincial election to be held in October.

The candidate for the district will be Kurtis Coombs.

“I am very happy to announce the addition of this young man to our growing list of candidates,” Connors said today. “His unique combination of experience and enthusiasm is a tremendous asset to the NDP.”

Coombs says, “I am ecstatic and extremely grateful that this energetic, up-and-coming party has chosen me to run in this district. The New Democratic Party best reflects my political views, my heartfelt desire to make a fundamental difference in our community, and my wish to help those people who get lost in the cracks of the government system."

Coombs has been an active member of the communities of Mount Pearl and Paradise, having lived, worked, and gone to school there. The Mount Pearl Chamber of Commerce named him Youth Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008, and in 2009 he ran a very close race for Mayor of Paradise.

Connors says the team of NDP candidates nominated for October’s election continues to grow. Today’s announcement means the party has 21 candidates in place, with nominations currently open in several other districts and more to be called in the coming weeks.
